Enhanced POET: Open-Ended Reinforcement Learning through Unbounded Invention of Learning Challenges and their Solutions
What this work does
Maintains a population of paired environments and agents, mutating challenges and transferring solutions, with a behavioral characterization separated from the environment encoding.
Connection to discovery
A curriculum-generation baseline in which stepping stones and transfer can produce tasks that a linear difficulty schedule misses.
Evidence
Obstacle-course experiments compare transfer and novelty mechanisms, and evaluate accumulation of newly created, solved environments.
Scope and limitations
An expanding environment archive still lies within an engineered encoding and acceptance criterion. Open-ended generation is not evidence of unlimited semantic novelty.
