A Self-Improving Coding Agent
What this work does
Uses an evaluated archive to select a coding agent that edits its own implementation, tools and oversight mechanisms, retaining changes according to downstream benchmark utility.
Connection to discovery
An enabling example of improving the executable discovery harness through evaluated self-modification.
Evidence
Inspected the self-referential improvement algorithm, initial harness and coding/reasoning task comparisons.
Scope and limitations
Benchmark subset selection and fixed model access constrain the claim; non-gradient harness improvement is not evidence of general scientific discovery or unbounded recursive gains.
