Causal inference using invariant prediction: identification and confidence intervals
What this work does
Tests whether a target's conditional predictive relationship is invariant across environments and intersects accepted predictor sets to obtain conservative causal statements.
Connection to discovery
A way to ask agents for mechanisms that survive environment changes rather than explanations that only fit one dataset.
Evidence
The inspected formulation distinguishes a set of invariant models from unique identification and illustrates distribution changes using recorded gene-knockout data.
Scope and limitations
The target mechanism must remain stable for the chosen environments, and intervention diversity controls identifiability. Non-rejection of invariance alone does not uniquely establish a causal graph.
