MLGym: A New Framework and Benchmark for Advancing AI Research Agents
What this work does
Provides modular Gym-style research tasks, shell-execution environments, datasets and agent interfaces across a 13-task ML benchmark.
Connection to discovery
A starting interface for collecting research-agent rollouts and testing alternative policies/harnesses under controlled task definitions.
Evidence
Inspected the distinction between reproducing known performance and novel contribution, plus the executable environment architecture.
Scope and limitations
A framework enabling RL is not itself evidence of a successfully trained discovery policy. Score improvement can come from ordinary engineering within predefined task boundaries.
