An autonomous laboratory for the accelerated synthesis of inorganic materials

Nathan J. Szymanski, Bernardus Rendy, Yuxing Fei et al.

What this work does

Combines literature-trained recipe proposals, robotic synthesis, XRD interpretation and thermodynamics-guided active learning to revise unsuccessful recipes.

Connection to discovery

A prospective physical discovery loop and a direct example of failed experiments serving as evidence for choosing the next experiment.

Evidence

The downloaded updated PDF reports 36 of 57 targets and shows how failed reactions constrain subsequent precursor choices; the publisher flags a 2026 correction.

Scope and limitations

Phase identification and novelty judgments require external scrutiny. An automated XRD interpretation is not definitive synthesis proof; compare updated results rather than repeating the original 41/58 claim.
